1. Choose the perfect Location

  • Vulcan Park- Birmingham at one time was know for its steel industry and the iconic Vulcan statue carries on the legacy located a top red mountain at Vulcan park. If you are looking for an engagement photo with the city skyline behind you this is a great choice.

  • Red Mountain Park (Hawk’s View) –Nature lovers looking for one of the best overlook spots in Birmingham look no further than Hawk's View. Ruffner Mountain nature preserve located just 15 minutes from downtown Birmingham has a 3.5 mile hike for the perfect location to pop the question! Heck, bring a picnic basket and enjoy the moment with your soon to be bride!

  • Railroad Park – Who doesn't like city skyline views or a great photographs of the two of you at sunset in downtown Birmingham! This was our favorite photograph(pictured above) from our wedding day! It made the cut and is framed proudly in our home! Railroad park is located next to the Birmingham Barons stadium and this spot has plenty of street parking which makes for easy access for that golden hour photograph!

  • Crest Road– If you are looking for the shot overlooking the city with field stone walls and lots of depth this is the spot for you! Parking is limited and there are a few spots on the street just before

    you get to your location.

2. Make it a surprise!

  • Rooftop proposal at a local rooftop bar – Couples rave about Elyton Hotel’s rooftop bar with great views. Plan an evening taking it the beautiful views, enjoying a great meal with your soon to be bride/groom and pop the question!

  • Horse Drawn Carriage Ride- Immerse yourself in the heart of downtown and take in all the magic city has to offer on a horse drawn carriage ride for a proposal that creates long lasting memories for the two of you.

3. Find your Engagement Photographer

There are different styles of photography like (light and airy, dark and moody, and natural) as this pertains to the way the images were edited. Also their is a style that applies to the overall feel of the images (joyful, romantic, playful, etc). Here at Cypress Creek Productions we lean towards the light and airy with a joyful feel, and are able to offer different styles based on what the bride is looking for. Finding the perfect wedding photographer that meets your style is a great place to start your research.

Also, do you prefer a more posed look for your photographs or do you prefer a more candid natural look. A good wedding photographer will give you good directions that puts you at ease and make you feel comfortable, but not over directing to the point your photos are stiff and awkward. Make sure you ask your photographer what posing style they prefer so you make the best decision moving forward.

4. Set up with personal touches

  • Boat ride on the lake : Nothing says engagement proposal like a boat ride at sunset with the perfect golden hour lighting. If you are planning a trip to the lake why not take advantage of the beautiful

scenery on the water and surprise her with a proposal. Who knows maybe you can ask some friends an family to time a firework show for the two of you as your celebrate your engagement!

  • Live music: Does live music tug on your heart strings and set the tone for a romantic evening? If so then book a solo violinist/guitarist.

  • Private dinner at The Club or a rooftop lounge—Be sure to plan accordingly and make reservations for that special romantic dinner to celebrate your engagement!

  • Family & friends surprise: Celebrate together with friends and family and who knows maybe they can add to the element of surprise and set off that firework show for the two of you riding on the boat at sunset or join you on the rooftop as you celebrate your engagement!

  • Champagne toast: At the Elyton rooftop, take in your engagement with a breathtaking city panorama after she says “yes.”
